FORT TOTTEN, NY. -- Auburndale Soccer Club Juventus coaching staff, Zhani Joanidhi and Giulio Petruccelli, let their players loose on Sunday against Plainedge United.
The result was two goals for Alexander “Sasha” Sullivan and one goal for Gilmar Neira in a 3-0 ASC Juventus victory, which extended the team's winning streak to three straight matches.
The coaching staff didn't want Juventus players to feel pressure and everything that comes with it, so they gave their players free rein against Plainedge.
"They told them to go out and apply what they practice throughout the week, just play and be creative and dedicate this game to your moms." This was said before the match.
Juventus's rise is the result of an ongoing effort to bring up the team's performance overall to obtain the best results. Juventus (3-1-2) suffered its lone loss back on March 24
th, 2013 when the team fell 3-1 at home to Syosset Strikers.
The victory pulls Juventus closer to the LIJSL 4W Division leaders with Albertson Assault and Syosset Strikers, which neither has lost in six matches.
"Our team is running. Our team is fighting. Our team is giving the effort, and we are very optimistic" said Juventus coach Luis Gonzalez, who is known as “The Boss."
Juventus were without goalkeeper Jonathan Mendez and players Denesh kandiah and Vincent “Vinny” Mastronardi but were present to give support to their team.
Richard Mazze, first player in the line-up had a sensational performance and a clean sheet during the game and is one of the three stellar goalies that ASC Juventus has in its arsenal.
Plainedge United goalie cut the distance with his arms outstretched but couldn't stop Sasha's right-footed kick from just outside the right corner of the box in the 7th minute. Sasha's first goal of the game came off a pass from mid-fielder and play-maker Tristan “Puyol” Gonzalez on a fast break.
The ASC Juventus team made it 2-0 when Sasha beat Plainedge goalie again in the 52th minute. He received a pass just outside the box turned 180 degrees and out of his right foot came a rocket. Unstoppable.
Juventus third goal of the match came in the 80th minute when Gilmar Neira, who is also a magnificent goalie, broke the off-side trap and received a pass from Hayk Matevosyan from the far right side, he approached the net and left-footed a low kick out of the reach of the Plainedge goalie. Gilmar was embraced by his teammates, blew kisses to the fans and moms following the goal.
"The chemistry is out there. They're all connected," John Rubio said. "I think every single player on this team -- whether they're starting or not -- is giving their all." All players, Blas Lezcano, Chris Lavelle, Daniel “DJ” Jadbir, Daniel “Lilo” Yacar, Michael Laskaris, John “JP” Espinoza, Matin Nazamy, Alexis Velez, Nei Joanidhi, William “Willy” Wong, Christopher “French” Riche, Sebastian Mendez and Jon Rubio are simply wonderful, hard working young men, excelling academically and making their parents very proud.
This week, Juventus will resume normal training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday morning with the objective to continue training hard and to be ready for the following match. Juventus visits rival Albertson Assault next Sunday 19
th May. Game is scheduled at 9:40 AM.
“Juventus competitive spirit is going strong and the desire to prevail is set already. They will give it all to be one step closer to the championship. It will not be easy but the effort, sweat and sacrifice we believe it will pay off at the end.” Parents, Juan Espinoza and Juan Mendez expressed their opinion.
The Juventus supporter's group is coordinated by Regina Sullivan who is also the treasurer for the team. The team displays the club's colors very proudly wherever it goes and is a standard for Sportsmanship and Discipline. Not one single player has been giving a yellow or red card during the season.
